Defender 110
The love for the venerable Defender resulted in the birth of Columbia Rovers. Brent still has the newspaper clipping from the early 90’s announcing the export of Defenders to the US. His older brother loved the Series vehicles from the 60’s and 70’s, the penultimate icon of automotive adventure. Brent’s first Defender was a 1994 Defender 90 soft top finished in conniston green. Since then he has owned seven other Defenders, but the Defender 110 featured here will always be his favorite.
We started with a rust free Defender 110 frame. All components were stripped free of the frame before being powder-coated. This gave us a beautiful, clean slate to begin assembly. The first motor was a stock serpentine driven 3.9, which simply did not do the 110 justice. A serpentine driven 4.2 with a mild cam, ceramic coated manifolds, and numerous powder coated components provided a considerable increase in power.
Our 110 was configured as a 2 door soft top pickup. A badger coachworks soft top kept the elements out when the sun wasn’t gracing Oregon with its presence.
Brent eventually sold the 110 to an auto enthusiast from Colorado. The buyer requested that the configuration be changed to a 110 quad cab pickup. We were happy to oblige and had the honor of building the 110 to a very particular specification. The new owner requested such appointments as a black suede headliner and ARB air lockers.
