We are often asked if the new Rovers can really venture off pavement. I am more convinced than ever that Land Rover has NOT abandoned its roots. On Saturday August 2nd, Columbia Rovers led a trip into the Tillamook State Forest. The map used for the previous run was donated to Rob in Seattle, and I had to dig up an older version. The older version did not include some choice information about the new trails and we wound up on Firebreak Five, which is a black diamond trail. All 6 Land Rovers ran the trail without any body damage. An impressive feat considering there were 2 LR3’s and a completely stock 2004 Range Rover in our contingent. I was shocked at how well the new, big body Rovers handle themselves off-tarmac. On the hardest section of Firebreak Five, we actually caught up to a group of jeeps, Early Bronco’s, and Toyotas, all wearing 35″ tires at least.
